These succulents are small adorable and easy to grow once, there are many varieties under this series and the care and propagation of these plants are similar. Haworthias are native of South Africa. They are closely related to Aloes and belong to the Aloe family. Initially Haworthias and Aloes were classified in the lily family, later they were re classified. So older reference books the classification of Havorthias will be under lily family. Two other related smaller genera are Gasteria about 15 species , and Astroloba, with about 10 species.
Haworthias as mentioned are very easy to grow and comes in different forms and shapes and are proven house plants, these plants are recommended for the beginners due to there extraordinary ability for adaptation. Apart from this the most attractive thing about this plant is there color. Almost all of them are in Rosette pattern. The other factor that results in their popularity is their small size. Individual single plants are usually in the range of 1-3” in diameter, and clusters of several dozen stems can fit nicely in a 4-5” pot. This allows for a diverse collection in a small space, such as on a windowsill or under a set of fluorescent lights

Lighting Requirements:
Haworthias can grow in medium to low lighting conditions. Though these are succulents and there general growing area is a desert , these plants generally grow in a protective environment from the hot Sun, in the shade of huge rocks or shrubs. This is the reason why they can grow in the indoor conditions with less lighting conditions. Generally they can go good as a desk top plant, or can be grown in a kitchen slab or a window sill. These plants cannot be deprived from light totally, if done will have elongated leaves and the result will be a shabby looking dull plant.
Watering Haworthia:

Soil requirements for Haworthia :
Haworthias need a soil mix that has a very good drainage, this plant hates wet soil conditions and is more susceptible to root rot.
